A lesson at Sketchbook Skool with Liz Steel, klass 6 at semester 2 ‘seeing’ on how you can see the subjects you draw using charts.
I’m slowly catching up with my drawings. The last one at first… I have no china cups in my bord. But I’ve got a very nice art pottery. This was a present from the artist: the cup has so much holes that I can not imagine for what this is good for. I love the little creature on it so much.
Following Liz’ instructions I first made some detail drawings before I draw the cup. I started the coloring with painting the shadows in turquoise – and then coloring in the other parts. I’m not sure if this was the best decision….
Ich hole langsam mit meinen Zeichnungen auf. Die letzten Aufgaben zuerst… Ich habe kein chinesisches Teaporcellan. Aberich habe eine außergewöhnliche kunsthandwerkliche Keramik. Es ist ein Geschenk des Künstlers: ein Gefäß mit so vielen Löchern, dass ich mir nicht vorstellen kann, wozu es dienen könnte. Ich mag vor allem diese kleine Kreatur am Gefäßrand sehr.
Entsprechend der Anleitung von Liz habe ich erst ein paar Detailskizzen angefertigt, bevor ich das Gefäß im Ganzen gezeichnet habe. Die Kolorierung habe ich mit den Schatten in Türkis begonnen – und anschließend die andere Teile koloriert. Ich bin mir überhaupt nicht sicher, ob das die beste Entscheidung war…

Jutta, I am loving reading this. It’s very interesting to hear from you again and read about your process. It sounds like by drawing details first you get to look much better. For me this happens when I do quick scribbly drawings of a whole face first, you get to know it much better. I love the end result, even though you’ve completely changed the color. The blue-green make the (duck?) face stand out a lot more. You’ve added drama to the piece. It’s your piece of course. Try it another time in a different color? Perhaps you come to love this one after all. Bye! Corinne
