Under the topic of the third week I was “allowed” to add line work and personal imagery to the next layer of my paintings. I learned about “spiraling in” and “spiraling out” and that the painting process is not a linear process. Flora say: “Spiraling in happens naturally when you are totally absorbed in your painting process. (..) This (spiraling out) is my term for stepping back away from the canvas in order to get a fresh perspective.” Right, it is easy to understand but difficult to remember in front of the canvas…

I had a difficult start of the week. I was so much upset that I couldn’t draw or listen to my soul. I was numb and lost my connection for a short time. So I fell behind the schedule with the first assignment and incorporating a personal imagery.

I worked only with two of three canvases. The third canvas I used directly on the second assignment of the week.

Unter dem Thema der 3. Woche hieß es in der nächsten Malschicht eigene Bilder hinzuzufügen. Auch ging darum, den Malvorgang als nicht-linear sondern kurvig wahrzunehmen. Flora bezeichnet es als ‘sprialing in’ und ‘spraling out’ – sie schreibt: ‘sprialing in’ geschieht ganz natürlich, wenn Du völlig vom Malprocess aufgezogen bist. ‘spiraling out’ ist ihre Bezeichnung dafür, wenn sie von der Leinwand zurücktritt, m eine neue frische Perspektive zu erlangen. Nun ja, das ist einfach zu verstehen, aber schwer zu erinnern direkt vor der Leinwand…

Ich hatte einen schwierigen Wochenstart. Ich war so aufgebracht, dass ich weder zeichnen noch meiner Intuition folgenden konnte. Ich war steif und habe die Verbindung für eine kurze Zeit verloren. So bin ich etwas in Verzug geraten mit der ersten Aufgabe der Woche.

Ich habe nur mit zweien der drei Leinwänden gearbeitet. Die dritte Leinwand habe ich direkt für die zweite Aufgabe der Woche genutzt und die erste Aufbgabe übersprungen.

“Up until now, we have been focusing on the various parts of the process: understanding color, exploring intuitive mark-making, adding value contrast, working with translucent layers, adding imagery and generally freeing up with paint. In a nutshell, we have been practicing.” (..) “Today marks a bit of a transition point in the course”, writes Flora and suggest us “to integrate the parts of the process in your way,” as the “ultimate goal” for the today’s assignment.

So I worked with two canvases at the same time – sort of. But – oh – when I feel that I try to force the process and it seems that I’ve overdone the one canvas I stopped the session.

“Bis heute haben wir uns auf verschiedene Teile des Prozesses konzentiert – Farbverständnis und eigene intuitive Nutzung der Malwerkzeuge entwickeln, Kontraste einfügen, transpartente Farbschichten auftragen, Bilder integrieren und allgemein ein freier Umgang mit dem Malen. Zusammenfassend: wir haben geübt. (..) Der heutige Tag markiert einen Wendepunkt des Kurses”, sagt Flora und meint damit, dass das heutige Ziel ist, alles in den nächsten Malschritt zu integrieren, was wir bisher gelernt haben, und zwar jede auf ihre Weise.

So habe ich mit zwei Leinwänden zur gleichen Zeit gearbeitet – sozusagen. Aber als ich das Gefühl hatte, dass ich meine Malerei zu sehr versucht habe voranzutreiben und feststellte, dass ich die eine Leinwand schon zu weit getrieben habe, habe ich die Arbeit für den Tag beendet.

And I proudly present the last canvas with the 7. layer. I like the painting and could imagine to hang it on the wall in my living room.

Ich präsentiere stolz meine letzte Leinwand mit der 7. Malschicht. Ich mag das Bild und könnte mir vorstellen, es im Wohnzimmer an die Wand zu hängen.
